Abstract

The present paper addresses the importance of ethnobiology for research on food systems, especially in rural communities whose interaction with nature is intrinsic to agricultural practices, hunting, gathering pants and fungi, also food preparation. We present different ways to get and to consume food of Cheran, a P´urhépecha community, where the annual cycle determines food production and consumption. At the end we stress the importance of this kind of researches, where ethnobiology approach could be the key to solve political problems concerning food segurity.
